FALL PREVENTION Falls happen whatever our age or fitness level, and the most serious ones can have dire physical, financial and psychological consequences. Although falling is not a normal part of aging, the probability of falling increases with age-related balance issues, problems related to the feet, or visual impairments, among other factors. As a result, one out of four people over 65 and one out of two people over 80 fall each year.

How can falls be prevented? Certainly not by limiting our activity, which causes deconditioning and increased fall risk, and not by staying home, which can lead to frailty and loss of independence. Instead, we should strengthen our anti-gravity muscles to improve our mobility and stability. Practicing a series of exercises inspired by Professor Debra Rose’s celebrated FallProof!™ program, developed at California State University at Fullerton, will do just that.
